‘Technology will keep the travel sector upbeat’: Alok Singh

The application of IT, e-commerce, and other similar technologies in the travel sector saves time, reduces costs, and creates a more seamless travel experience for travelers. Technology aids travel businesses to augment their operations, or even automatize processes that would, in general, require active involvement. Additionally, technology can help reduce human errors that would otherwise have affected the accuracy and convenience of travel. Alok K Singh, Co-founder and CEO, Travomint shares more.

Keeping up with the pace

Travel businesses should always keep an eye out for their competitors and the technological trends they are adopting. Resting on laurels can risk the business, especially when the technology is introduced to benefit the consumers. As the trends emerge, consumers start expecting a certain level of experience, and if the business fails to meet their expectations, it is likely that they feel disappointed. This could eventually lead to negative reviews and a damaged reputation.

The key technology trends

Voice search

As far as technology in the travel trends is concerned, smartphones and AI assistants have all aided to escalate the relevance of voice search. A growing number of consumers are using voice search to find and book flights, hotels, or to obtain information without needing to communicate to a staff member. It is, therefore, prominent to design a website with voice search capabilities so that one can capitalize on this trend.

Robots

Robotics is one of the most exciting and constantly improving forms of technology involved in travel businesses. Some hotels use robots in concierge-like roles, they greet guests at arrival, provide information, handle luggage, help in preparing food, detect concealed weapons, etc. The usage of robots has actually increased in response to the COVID-19 since they have the potential to curtail human-to-human contact.

Contactless Payment

Contactless payment is another crucial form of travel technology. It allows a quick and hassle-free payment option that enhances the travel experience and saves time. This service was started as a convenience but gradually it became a key part of the travel sector in the wake of the pandemic. People are nervous about the spread of Coronavirus which makes them reluctant to handle cash, contactless payments are a great way to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)

Nowadays, virtual reality is an emerging technology in several sectors however, it plays a significant role in the travel sector. It allows travelers to experience the far away and luxurious locations in the comfort of their homes. This includes virtual hotel tours, food joints to landmarks, museums, national parks, mountains, beaches, deserts, or specific adventures. It further helps them to finalize their next holiday destination.

Augmented reality involves augmenting a person’s actual surroundings rather than superseding them. This technological trend is comparatively cheaper than Virtual Reality, where only a smartphone or a tablet device is required by the user in order to access the internet.

IoT

Internet of things is one of the most interesting technology trends in the travel sector, which incorporates internet-based interconnectivity between everyday devices; allowing them to send and receive data. Such devices can be used in hotel rooms to provide the guests with the convenience to control lights, air conditioners, heaters, etc. just from one place.

AI and Big Data

Apart from robots, AI can be used in other ways too. Hotels and other travel-related businesses can make use of AI to accurately sort through data. This will help in drawing conclusions about the performance or trends associated with consumer satisfaction.

Big data is a fact of life in this modern world and almost all travel businesses are employing their own data collection techniques in their processes. The data helps in many ways; it improves personalization to offer specific adjustments to consumers, analyzes business performance, manages revenue, and so on.

The travel domain is undoubtedly one of the fastest-growing economic sectors in the world, there has been a great digital revolution for travelers wherein technological advances have augmented the personalized options for traveling. The travel sector has experienced tremendous changes due to technology. This intervention has secured every aspect of travel and paved the way for improved customer satisfaction.
