The 16th ATOAI (Adventure Tour Operators Association of India) Convention kicked off today in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, under the theme of promoting sustainable tourism in India’s border regions.
The event brought together key figures such as Ajeet Bajaj, President of ATOAI , Lt. Gen. Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of the Army Staff for Information Systems and Coordination (IS & C), Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pasang Dorjee Sona, Arunachal Pradesh’s Tourism Minister; and Capt. Swadesh Kumar, Founding President of ATOAI, to discuss the future of tourism in these sensitive areas.
Lt. Gen. Kapoor stressed the significance of showcasing the unspoiled beauty of border regions while uplifting local communities through improved infrastructure and job creation. However, he underscored the importance of eco-friendly practices to prevent the adverse effects of overtourism.
Speakers at the convention also highlighted the need for responsible tourism strategies that balance ecological preservation with economic development. The discussions focused on how tourism in remote border areas can foster sustainable growth and provide meaningful opportunities for local populations.
