Existing Challenges & How Hoteliers Can Help
Weddings are a celebration, and a flexible, adaptable approach is essential. The pricing structure should be more streamlined. While a handful of properties in India excel in hospitality and warmth, many need to adopt a more accommodating stance. When couples and their families book hotels at premium prices, they expect flexibility in terms of menus, venue options, and music restrictions, among other aspects. By understanding these expectations, hotels can enhance the wedding experience and meet their clients’ needs more effectively.
Weddings in India vs. Organizing Weddings Abroad
The recent initiatives by the Government of India have encouraged more clients to host their weddings domestically. However, there remains a segment that prefers international weddings due to factors like ease of obtaining visas, better hotel pricing, and the prestige of a global wedding. Currently, the ratio stands at approximately 70-30, with 70% of weddings being hosted in India and 30% abroad. Despite domestic advantages, the allure of international destinations continues to attract a significant portion of couples.
Sustainability in Destination Weddings
There are several ways to make weddings more sustainable:
- Choosing eco-friendly properties that rely primarily on renewable energy.
- Using group transportation instead of individual cars to reduce emissions.
- Incorporating sustainable, biodegradable decor elements such as terracotta props, jute fabric, and local flowers.
- Providing recycling bins at event venues.
- Ensuring leftover food is not wasted but donated to NGOs or local charities.
The landscape of weddings in India is undergoing a transformation. We are fortunate to be at the forefront of this change. As new venue options emerge, couples and families are increasingly aware of the need to balance the opulence of traditional Indian weddings with sustainability. This shift reflects a broader understanding of the importance of integrating eco-friendly practices into grand celebrations.
