With the inauguration of its first Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Guwahati – complementing its presence in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar – the company is strengthening regional connectivity and making international mobility more accessible.
Inaugurated by Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Tourism Minister Smt Ajanta Neog, Transport Minister Shri Charan Boro, and Yummi Talwar, Chief Operating Officer – South Asia, VFS Global, and in the presence of diplomatic representatives from Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy and France, the expansion underscores Northeast India’s growing importance in international travel.
Yummi Talwar, Chief Operating Officer – South Asia, VFS Global, said, “We are pleased to inaugurate our new Visa Application Centre in Guwahati, strengthening access to visa services for applicants across Assam and the wider Northeast. With growing aspirations around education, business, tourism, and global mobility, reliable access to visa services is central to turning ambition into opportunity.”
Emphasising its broader significance, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, added, “As we move forward, our focus must remain on building stronger connections, creating opportunities for our young people, supporting businesses, and welcoming visitors from across the world. The inauguration of this visa application centre is an important step in that direction. I congratulate VFS Global and everyone associated with this initiative.”

VFS’s new 3,200 sq. ft. facility – its third VAC in Eastern India – is strategically located in Assam’s largest city, with convenient air, rail and road connectivity, and will serve applicants across eight Northeastern states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim – reducing the need to travel to larger metropolitan cities.
The centre will provide visa application services for 14 countries: Austria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Malta (D-Visa applications), Morocco, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
