The Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) – Gujarat Chapter successfully concluded an 11-night / 12-day Educational Familiarisation Trip to South Africa in July 2026, organised in association with Travel Senses South Africa.
The initiative was designed as a comprehensive learning and destination-exploration programme for members of TAFI Gujarat Chapter, providing them with first-hand exposure to South Africa’s tourism infrastructure, wildlife, hospitality, attractions, adventure experiences, transportation and destination offerings.
A delegation of 30 TAFI Gujarat Chapter members, including the Chairman and Committee members, participated in the programme. The journey covered some of South Africa’s most important tourism destinations, including Johannesburg, Sun City, Eastern Cape, the Garden Route and Cape Town.
TAFI Gujarat Chapter: Connecting Travel Professionals with Global Destinations
The educational trip reflects TAFI Gujarat Chapter’s continued commitment towards professional development, destination knowledge and creating stronger international tourism linkages for its members.
For travel professionals, first-hand destination experience plays a vital role in understanding what can genuinely be recommended to clients. Through this initiative, TAFI Gujarat Chapter members had the opportunity to experience South Africa beyond brochures and presentations and gain practical knowledge that can be translated into better holiday planning and stronger destination sales in the Indian market.
The programme also provided an excellent platform for members to interact with local tourism stakeholders, understand tourism products and evaluate hotels, restaurants, sightseeing experiences, transportation and other services from a travel agent’s perspective.
Special Interaction with the Consulate of India in Cape Town
One of the significant highlights of the educational trip was the visit and interaction with the Consulate of India in Cape Town.
The TAFI Gujarat Chapter delegation, together with the Travel Senses team, met representatives of the Indian Consulate and discussed opportunities for strengthening tourism and business connections between India and South Africa.
Discussions covered tourism opportunities, traveller facilitation, business prospects, people-to-people connections and ways in which the tourism fraternity can contribute towards strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
The interaction added an important business and diplomatic dimension to the educational programme and gave TAFI Gujarat Chapter members a broader understanding of the India–South Africa tourism ecosystem.
South Africa Experienced Beyond the Traditional Safari
The programme showcased South Africa as a destination offering far more than wildlife and safari.
The TAFI Gujarat delegation experienced a diverse range of tourism products covering wildlife, luxury travel, adventure, nature, family holidays, group travel, incentive travel, leisure experiences and MICE opportunities.
The delegation also experienced Cape Town’s iconic attractions, scenic landscapes and coastline, while gaining practical insights into hotels, restaurants, transportation and destination-management services.
Special attention was given to understanding the requirements of the Indian traveller, including vegetarian and Indian food options, group handling, family travel, customised itineraries and facilities suitable for Indian tour groups.
First-Hand Destination Knowledge for Better Client Servicing
The programme enabled TAFI Gujarat Chapter members to assess tourism products from a professional travel-agent perspective.
Hotel inspections, destination visits, attraction experiences, local transportation and interactions with tourism service providers helped members understand the destination’s strengths, operational aspects and suitability for different categories of Indian travellers.
This knowledge will enable TAFI members to recommend South Africa with greater confidence and create more meaningful and value-driven itineraries for their clients.
Travel Senses South Africa: Professional Destination Support
Travel Senses South Africa, based in Cape Town, planned and coordinated the local arrangements for the educational programme.
The team facilitated destination experiences, hotel visits, transportation, sightseeing and local interactions, while ensuring that the delegation received practical exposure to the products and services available for the Indian market.
Speaking about the initiative, Pratik Patel, Founder & Managing Director, Travel Senses South Africa, said:
“The objective was not merely to take travel agents to South Africa, but to give them a genuine first-hand understanding of the destination, its tourism products, hotels, wildlife and experiences. When travel professionals experience a destination themselves, they can guide their clients with greater confidence and authenticity. The interaction with the Consulate of India in Cape Town was also an important and valuable part of the programme.”
A Stronger Platform for India–South Africa Tourism
The successful TAFI Gujarat Chapter educational trip represents an important step towards strengthening professional relationships between Indian travel agents and the South African tourism industry.
For TAFI Gujarat Chapter, such initiatives are an integral part of its commitment to continuously enhance destination knowledge, professional exposure and business opportunities for its members.
With 30 travel professionals experiencing South Africa first-hand, the programme has created a stronger network of destination advocates within Gujarat’s travel trade—professionals who can now promote South Africa with greater knowledge, confidence and personal experience.
The initiative also reinforces TAFI Gujarat Chapter’s role in connecting its members with international destinations and tourism stakeholders, thereby contributing to the growth of outbound tourism from Gujarat and India.
