The Jakarta–Mumbai Update (JaMU) 2026, organised by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Western Region, concluded successfully on June 25, 2026 at Hotel Sofitel, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, reaffirming the shared commitment of Indonesia and India to deepen cooperation through the creative economy.
Held under the theme ‘The Creative Economy Value Chain – Monetising Cultural Assets in the Global Food and Apparel Industry,’ JaMU 2026 brought together approximately 150 participants, including creative economic practitioners from Indonesia and India, business leaders, industry experts, academia, entrepreneurs, investors, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and media representatives.
The event was inaugurated by Pritee Chaudhary, Regional Director, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in the presence of Eddy Wardoyo, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, Vir Advani, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Western Region, and D. Ramakrishnan, General Manager (P&A), National Museum of Indian Cinema, Skill Development, IT & Legal, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
The inaugural session featured pre-recorded messages from the Hon’ble Indonesian Minister of Creative Economy, the Hon’ble Indonesian Minister of Trade, and the Hon’ble Governor of DKI Jakarta, followed by promotional videos highlighting the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 and Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026, showcasing Indonesia’s growing creative economy ecosystem and international trade opportunities.
In his welcome remarks, Eddy Wardoyo, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, emphasised that JaMU has evolved into an important platform connecting Jakarta and Mumbai through trade, investment, innovation, and people-to-people engagement. He highlighted the creative economy as a strategic pillar for expanding Indonesia–India cooperation beyond conventional sectors and unlocking new opportunities for sustainable economic growth.

The Business Forum featured three thematic sessions that examined the creative economy value chain from cultural heritage to commercialisation.
Session I – ‘The Foundation’ brought together experts from Universitas Indonesia (UI), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), Mumbai, and Phenomenal AI, India to discuss the commercialisation of cultural heritage and opportunities for Indonesia–India collaboration in film, media, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and creative technologies.
Session II – ‘The Lifestyle’ featured leaders from Kayu India, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Navi Mumbai, and the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), Mumbai, highlighting opportunities in furniture, handicrafts, fashion, textiles, gaming, animation, digital media, and design innovation. Session III – ‘Gastro-Monetisation’ brought together experts from Malaka Spice, Pune, Western India Culinary Association (WICA), and renowned Indonesian Chef Faisal Martadinata, who explored opportunities to promote Indonesian gastronomy, specialty food ingredients, hospitality, and culinary innovation as drivers of Indonesia– India collaboration in the food and beverage sector.
One of the major highlights of JaMU 2026 was the signing of MoU between Singhasari Special Economic Zone (Indonesia) and Phenomenal AI (India). The MoU establishes a framework for bilateral cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, film, animation, digital content, creative media, startup development, research, innovation, talent development, and capacity building, while strengthening Mumbai – Malang Creative Tech Corridor.
JaMU 2026 also featured a Mini Exhibition, showcasing Indonesian products, creative economy initiatives, and business collaborations. Participating exhibitors included Indofood, Mayora India, Azaki Food International, Gojek (GoTo Group), Mystic Garuda Ventures, Japfa Comfeed India, Sea6 Energy, Nabati Food India, and Kayu India. The exhibition, together with exhibitor presentations and B2B networking sessions, provided valuable opportunities for business matching, commercial partnerships, investment promotion, and market access.
