The airport, located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, has finally opened after several delays and is now set to become the second international airport serving the Delhi-NCR region after Indira Gandhi International Airport. The two airports are expected to operate as an integrated aviation system, easing congestion at IGI Airport and significantly increasing passenger handling capacity across the region.

The first phase of the airport has been designed to handle nearly 1.2 crore passengers annually. Developed as one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects, the airport has been built at an estimated investment of around ₹11,200 crore. It is expected to emerge as a major international gateway for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.
