A 45 days MahaKumbh Mela begins in India , from 13 January 2025, an event which will witness around 40 crore tourism from all over the world, to cherish the essence of Sanatan Dharam, this event will be the world’s largest gathering of humanity as it showcases religion, spirituality, tourism and crowd management. The Kumbh is held once every 12 years in cycle and has the prefix ‘maha’ (great) as it is considered more auspicious due to its timing and attracts the largest gathering.
The Holy bathing takes place every day of the Kumbh festivities, but on the most auspicious dates, it is known as Shahi Snan, Key dates includes Paush Purnima (January 13), Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), Basant Panchami (February 3), Maghi Purnima (February 12), and Mahashivratri (February 26).
Over 40 crore people are expected to come to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to take a holy dip in Sangam from 13 January to 25 February 2025 , but as CM Yogi Adityanath said ‘We are not preparing ourselves for 40 crore , but for 100 crores’ . The Kumbhs are a big test for authorities to showcase India’s ability to organise and manage the movement of millions of people and take this grand spiritual event at higher level.
A 4,000 hectares of open land along the banks of the sangam rivers has been converted into a temporary city to house the visitors in 150,000 tents and well equipped with 3,000 kitchens, 145,000 restrooms and 99 parking lots, taking forward the vision of “ Swach Bharat” adavance sanitation system has been installed which includes 10 walk-behind sweeping machines, over 150,000 toilets, 25,000 dustbins, and 5,000 urinals, complemented by 160 waste management vehicles. Additionally, two battery-operated vacuum litter pickers are stationed to keep the space pristine. The total cost of the high-tech cleaning equipment is estimated between ₹45 lakh and ₹50 lakh.
Authorities have also installed up to 450,000 new electricity connections, as this grand gathering need more power than what 100,000 apartments in the region consume in a month. Talking about transportation one needs to make themselves ready to walk non stop as the Samgam belt is packed with people all around the Country. Considering the connectivity Indian Railways has introduced 98 special trains that will make 3,300 trips during the festival to transport visitors besides regular trains that connect Prayagraj and make travel hassle free.
When comes to Security and safety of pilgrims, 40,000 police personnel and cybercrime experts have created a web of surveillance powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to protect and help navigate the sea of humanity at the site. Emergency response capabilities include 125 road ambulances, seven river ambulances and air ambulances for swift medical assistance, according to govt personnel. Ministry of tourism has also promoted the Kumbh Mela at several international tourism expositions and invited foreign representatives. According to Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, more than 15 lakh foreign tourists are expected to visit the Maha Kumbh.
The Tourism Ministry has established a tent city, Incredible India Pavillion offering facilities such as Ayurveda, Yoga, and Panchakarma to accommodate them, he has said. A sprawling 5000 sq ft space at Maha Kumbh”, which will facilitate the foreign tourists, scholars, researchers, photographers, journalists, expat community and Indian diaspora members among others. The pavillion will offer “an immersive experience” for visitors, showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage and the significance of the Kumbh Mela. The pavilion will also feature the ‘Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Poll’, allowing visitors to vote for their favourite tourism destinations in India, he added.
