What innovative strategies are Preferred Hotels & Resorts implementing to stay ahead in the ever-evolving hospitality industry?
With over 55 years of experience as a pioneer in the independent hotel space, Preferred Hotels & Resorts has dedicated itself to shaping and refining the luxury hotel experience. Our global network and innovative programming give our brand an edge over the competition, especially in response to the recent surge in demand for independent-styled brands from large chains. Despite the increasingly challenging marketplace, our significant head start positions us to capitalise on the shift in consumer trends towards independent, authentic luxury lodging. We are continually expanding our footprint in new and lesser-known destinations, focusing on strategic growth and selecting the right hotels for the right destinations.
Can you share any upcoming projects or expansions that Preferred Hotels & Resorts is excited about?
Our global brand portfolio is constantly evolving, welcoming new members and celebrating hotel openings that underscore our strength as the partner of choice for independent and distinctive hotels worldwide. We have a robust development pipeline for the next 36 months and beyond, with at least 11 new hotel openings scheduled for 2024, including properties like Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos in Mexico and Maison Albar – Le Victoria in Nice, France. Additionally, we remain committed to expanding our Legend Collection, which showcases extraordinary properties in remarkable destinations. Membership in this exclusive group is reserved for distinguished properties that exemplify the highest standards of luxury, such as The Leela Palace hotels. These properties, renowned for their timeless design and exceptional guest services, consistently receive accolades from prestigious organizations like Michelin and Forbes, solidifying their status as the best in the world.
How is Preferred Hotels & Resorts integrating sustainability into its operations and guest experiences?
In 2021, Preferred Travel Group, our parent company, established Beyond Green as a brand representing sustainability leadership in action and impact, with a mission to transform the global travel and tourism industry, making sustainability the rule rather than the exception.
Beyond Green goes beyond mere aspiration; it embodies aspiration put into practice. To qualify for membership, properties undergo a rigorous, staged vetting process based on global sustainable tourism standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This process encompasses three key pillars: environmentally-friendly practices surpassing basics, support for protecting cultural and natural heritage, and direct social and economic benefits to local communities. Our Beyond Green members collectively protect over 6 million acres of restored habitat on land and sea, engage directly in saving some of the most endangered species, and closely collaborate with local communities to support sustainable development.
What emerging trends do you foresee shaping the future of luxury hospitality, and how is Preferred Hotels adapting to them?
In 2022, travel trends revolved around a return to travel, followed by an even more adventurous 2023. Ultra-experiential travel is now a focal point for many luxury travellers seeking unique experiences and meaningful connections with destinations, steering clear of crowds. The rise in shoulder season travel allows for a more authentic connection with destinations outside of peak periods.
Corporate travel is witnessing a resurgence in booking levels, with a notable shift in travel behaviour. In addition to “bleisure,” there’s a growing demand for sustainability in business travel. Hotels can expect increased interest in sustainable travel, with travellers measuring their carbon footprint and companies incentivising smarter travel practices.
Regarding markets, India’s outbound travel is projected to rank fifth by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate surpassing China’s. With China reopening its borders for travel in 2023, optimism surrounds the consolidation and growth of outbound tourism from the region in 2024.
Our team is already implementing strategies aligned with these trends, ensuring each member hotel is well-prepared to thrive in evolving markets.
How is Preferred Hotels & Resorts leveraging technology to enhance guest experiences and streamline operations in today’s digital age?
As a soft brand, we are not directly involved in the operational aspects of member hotels, but we recognise the crucial role of technology and innovation in enhancing guest experiences. In the independent hotel space, maintaining a personalised touch is paramount to set us apart.
To strike the right balance between technology and human interaction, we invest in technology to streamline guest interactions, offering services such as online booking, mobile check-ins, and digital concierge services.
