Ilker Ayci has declined the CEO position offer by Air India, according to a report by Bloomberg. The Air India board had met recently to consider the candidature of Ilker Ayci and after due deliberations approved the appointment of Ayci as the CEO & MD of Air India.
Ayci’s appointment was questioned because of his proximity to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey and other alleged controversial links.
“I have come to the conclusion that it would not be a feasible or an honourable decision to accept the position in the shadow of such a narrative”, said Ayci citing the reason for not accepting the offer.
Until very recently, Ilker Ayci, was the Chairman of the Turkish Airlines and he was on the board of the company prior to that. Ayci was born in Istanbul in 1971. He is 1994 alumni of Bilkent University’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration. After a research stay on political science at the Leeds University in the UK in 1995, he completed an International Relations Master’s program at the Marmara University in Istanbul in 1997.
