Raftopolous revealed, “We are currently in negotiations with a couple of Indian carriers to initiate direct flights connecting Delhi and Athens.”Emphasising the robust historical ties between India and Greece, he highlighted the significant pre-pandemic traffic flow between the two countries. “Before COVID-19, an estimated 50,000 Indian travellers visited Greece, while a substantial number of Greeks ventured to India for both business and leisure purposes. Establishing a direct flight path makes perfect sense,” Raftopolous added.
Highlighting the airport’s remarkable post-pandemic growth trajectory, Raftopolous expressed pride in Athens International Airport’s surge in activity. “Post Covid-19, our airport has become one of the busiest globally, currently serving approximately 28 million passengers. This year, we’ve witnessed unprecedented growth, placing us among the two fastest-growing airports in Europe based on the latest data,” he disclosed.
Moreover, Raftopolous shed light on an intriguing trend in aviation. “The private jet market is experiencing a notable uptick, primarily driven by the burgeoning interests of High Net Worth Individuals (HNIs) in both business and leisure travel,” he stated, underscoring the evolving dynamics within the aviation industry.
