India’s domestic air passenger traffic grew 18.60 per cent to around 13.90 crore during January-December 2018 over the same period a year ago, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
As per the reports, the private carriers together flew 12.14 crore passengers during January-December 2018 period, registering the growth of 19.46 per cent compared to the same period a year ago. The state-owned Air India flew 1.76 crore passengers, registering a growth 13.0 per cent during January-December 2018 period.
As per the findings of the report, budget carrier IndiGo continues to be the market leader, carrying 5.76 crore passengers in 2018, translating into market share of 41.5 per cent, while full-service carrier Jet Airways followed it, carrying 1.91 crore passengers (13.8 per cent share). Along with JetLite, Jet Airways market share reached at 15.5 per cent. Air India clocked a market share of 12.7 per cent and SpiceJet cornered 12.3 per cent market share.
Meanwhile, as per the findings of the report, GoAir enjoyed a market share of 9 per cent in 2018. AirAsia and Vistara witnessed market share of 4.9 per cent and 3.8 per cent respectively.
According to the DGCA data, budget carrier SpiceJet recorded the highest load factor during the December at 92.7 per cent, followed by IndiGo at 88.9 per cent. The load factor of state-run Air India, in comparison, stood at 81.2 per cent in December.
