Varanasi/BOTT: Another ghat is going to be added to the series of ghats in Varanasi. The double-engine BJP government is redeveloping the Samne Ghat, building a concrete ghat next to the bridge connecting Samne Ghat to RamNagar. The construction of the ghat is taking special care of the architectural style of other historic ghats of Kashi. This modern concrete ghat is being built with special attention to tourist facilities, ensuring that tourists receive all amenities along with performing religious activities. The semi-circular ghats of Kashi along the northern-flowing Ganga have always attracted the entire world.
Rajendra Rawat, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department, stated that the redevelopment of this ghat is being carried out at a cost of 1055.43 lakh. The length of this ghat is 110 meters. Most of the works on the ghat, including platforms for aarti and worship, canopy made of Chunar stone, gazebo, changing room, high-mast light, street lights, signage, drinking water, pathways, parking, stone pitching, ramps for differently-abled and elderly people, horticulture, etc., have been completed. The executing agency has been instructed to complete the remaining work before Dev Deepawali.
Taking antiquity into consideration, Chunar stones are being used in the reconstruction of Kashi’s ghats. Rajendra Rawat, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department, mentioned that the construction of the concrete ghat at Samne Ghat will provide great convenience to the local people for Ganga bathing and religious ceremonies like Chhath and Dev Deepawali. Redevelopment of the raw ghat, slightly away from the series of Kashi’s religious and historic ghats, will increase religious tourism. There are also plans to conduct water sports activities on it.
