Richard has been closely involved in the transformation of the resort from its early stages, overseeing key phases spanning design, renovation, operational planning and brand positioning. Under his guidance, the beachfront resort will feature over 400 rooms and suites, six restaurants and bars, a full-service spa, and extensive recreational and event facilities — reflecting Mövenpick’s philosophy of doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way.
Bringing over 30 years of international hospitality experience across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Richard is recognised for his people-first leadership, operational excellence, and passion for curating meaningful guest experiences. He is leading the evolution of the iconic former Bintan Lagoon Resort into a contemporary tropical destination that blends Mövenpick’s Swiss heritage with warmth of Indonesian hospitality.
Richard’s hospitality journey spans some of Europe’s most iconic luxury hotels, including Hotel des Bergues in Geneva, Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof in Frankfurt, and The Shelbourne in Dublin. With 13 years of experience under his belt at Le Méridien, Richard has also held senior management roles across Europe, Thailand, Malaysia, and Jordan, where he honed his expertise in operations, guest engagement, and team development.
His history with Mövenpick includes three years at Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna in Egypt as well as being part of the opening team for Mövenpick Karon Beach Phuket in 2006 — the brand’s first resort in Southeast Asia.
Prior to joining Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon, Richard spent nearly a decade with ONYX Hospitality Group, where he led the award-winning Amari Phuket as Hotel Manager, achieving multiple regional accolades and international recognition.
“Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon is poised to redefine island hospitality,” said Richard Margo, General Manager. “Our vision is to create a vibrant, welcoming retreat that celebrates Bintan’s natural beauty and brings people together through great food, uplifting experiences, and the warmth of genuine hospitality.”
He added, “As we prepare for launch, I’m focused on building a team that lives Mövenpick’s spirit of generosity, thoughtful service, and meaningful connection with our community.”
Set to officially open in Q2 2026, Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon marks a new chapter in the island — offering a luxurious yet relaxed tropical escape that celebrates contemporary design, local culture, and heartfelt hospitality.
