Gajesh Girdhar, Chairman, Governing Council & Founder Member, NIMA says the year 2025 will be remembered as a turning point for the global MICE industry, with domestic markets emerging as the strongest growth engine. As businesses regained confidence and travel patterns stabilized, organisations turned to national destinations for impactful, cost-effective, and strategically planned events. Domestic MICE became the anchor that shaped the year’s overall performance.
Across major MICE-driven economies, domestic tourism recorded its most dynamic phase in recent years. Corporates from IT, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, BFSI, manufacturing and retail prioritised in-country meetings and incentives, recognising the benefits of reduced budgets, simpler logistics and controlled planning. This shift allowed companies to conduct more frequent engagements, boosting both employee participation and event outcomes.
An important highlight of 2025 was the rise of emerging MICE cities. With improved airports, upgraded highways and modern convention facilities, destinations such as Jaipur, Indore, Kochi, Lucknow, Vizag and Chandigarh offered exceptional value. These cities provided a balanced mix of affordability, accessibility and contemporary hospitality, making them preferred choices for conferences, dealer meets and leadership summits.
Corporate off-sites and incentive trips flourished domestically due to better connectivity. New aviation routes, expressways and fast-train services reduced travel time and enhanced convenience. Sustainability further influenced decisions, as domestic MICE naturally produced lower carbon emissions while generating stronger economic benefits for local communities, hotels, and ancillary sectors.
2025 also marked a powerful revival of domestic exhibitions and trade shows. Industry-focused expos in manufacturing, technology, textiles, automobiles and MSMEs witnessed record footfall. Live demonstrations, networking opportunities and multi-city calendars strengthened the domestic business ecosystem, giving companies a robust platform for sales and brand visibility.
Technology continued to reshape domestic MICE experiences. AI-powered event tools, seamless registration systems, smart attendee profiling, multilingual interpretation and virtual walkthroughs added efficiency and precision to planning. Hybrid components remained relevant, enhancing reach and making events more inclusive for nationwide audiences.
International MICE tourism maintained steady growth through 2025, with Singapore, Dubai, Thailand, Turkey and South Korea leading the outbound incentive market. Europe and the US remained top destinations for large conventions. However, outbound travel became more selective and ROI-driven, as many organisations chose to balance major domestic events with focused international reward trips.
By year-end, it was evident that 2025 distinctly belonged to domestic MICE tourism. Strong infrastructure, value-driven planning, enhanced technology and rising corporate trust enabled national destinations to dominate the MICE calendar. The year set a promising tone for 2026, reaffirming that domestic MICE is not only a sustainable option but a strategic pillar of growth for the global meetings and events industry.
