Tourism Western Australia is in advanced discussions with Indian carriers to establish direct flights connecting Perth with either Delhi, Chennai, or Bengaluru, revealed Reece Whitby MLA, Minister for Tourism, Western Australia. “India is a very important market for us,” Whitby said. “It has risen to become Western Australia’s eighth-largest inbound market by visitor volume and fourteenth-largest by visitor spend. We are keen to welcome Indian travellers and inspire longer stays from this high-potential market.”
The announcement comes on the heels of Tourism Western Australia’s most comprehensive marketing campaign in India, which culminated with an official delegation visit led by Minister Whitby along with senior delegation members from Western Australia, including Chad Anderson, CEO of Tourism Western Australia and Anneke Brown, Managing Director, Tourism Western Australia. The four-phase activation marked a landmark effort to strengthen bilateral tourism ties and elevate Western Australia’s appeal among Indian travellers.
Launched in June 2025, the campaign combined multi-channel strategies across India’s dynamic travel ecosystem, including joint promotions with leading travel agents and online travel platforms. The campaign strategically aligned with India’s festive and holiday travel period, amplifying awareness and engagement.
In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Tourism Western Australia partnered with Swiggy, India’s leading food delivery and quick-commerce platform, to bring travel inspiration directly into homes. Featuring Western Australia’s famous quokka, dubbed the “happiest animal on earth”, the campaign appeared across millions of Swiggy Food and Instamart screens, turning routine delivery interactions into aspirational travel moments.
Complementing this digital innovation, Tourism Western Australia hosted an extensive familiarisation trip from September 9–17, 2025, for over 20 top Indian travel agents and media representatives. The delegation explored Western Australia’s pristine beaches, adventure trails, and premium wine regions before attending the Namaste WA networking event at Optus Stadium.
“This has been one of our most ambitious and holistic outreach programs in India,” said Anneke Brown, Managing Director, Tourism Western Australia. “By integrating trade, media, and consumer engagement, we’ve created visibility at multiple levels. We are confident this will translate into stronger demand and a deeper affinity for Western Australia.”
In the year ending June 2025, around 38,000 visitors from India travelled to Western Australia, contributing AUD 75 million in visitor spend. The campaign concluded with a high-profile networking dinner at the Taj Palace, New Delhi, attended by key trade, airline and media stakeholders.
