Held across Mukki, Garhi, Kathiya, and Sijhora, the camp provided critical eye care services to underserved local communities, improving access to eye health in remote areas around Kanha.
Commenting on such an initiative, Vishal Singh, Cofounder & Director of TOFTigers said, “TOFT is dedicated to making sustainability synonymous with tourism, ensuring that its initiatives extend beyond just tourism to address community needs. The idea for the eye camp emerged from the realization that access to quality eye care is a significant challenge for rural communities, especially those in remote areas near wildlife sanctuaries. Many people suffer from treatable conditions like cataracts but lack the resources for diagnosis and treatment. Recognizing this gap, TOFT took the initiative to bring essential eye care services directly to these underserved communities through a free eye care camp. This also is one of the initiatives we have started, we aim to have many more inclusive programs that benefit the communities”
The initiative, which focused on cataract surgeries and eye screenings, addressed the significant lack of healthcare services for locals, particularly the elderly, forest staff, safari guides, and children. Hundreds received free eye exams, prescription glasses, and treatment, enhancing their ability to work, study, and live independently.
This camp highlights TOFT’s mission to unite stakeholders in conservation and community empowerment through sustainable tourism. By providing essential healthcare and fostering collaboration, we are ensuring that both people and wildlife benefit from a shared, thriving environment.
