During the discussion, Mrs. Jyoti Mayal, President, TAAI shared her concerns on the continued challenges faced by the travel & tourism and aviation sectors, which are massively hit by the pandemic. “While many airlines globally closed their operations, it was an achievement that our airlines had weathered the storm and were performing well. I would like to even congratulate SpiceJet, for zero retrenchment and to take care of its employees during the tough times,” she said.
Mayal further discusses about the challenges that the sector is facing, SpiceJet and its focus on commercial passenger operations and its fast growing logistic business, refunds, and also about plans to further strengthen the relations between the airline and TAAI, and how it can be mutually beneficial. She also put forth her views about relevance of IATA for the Indian market, as discussed by her previously with the Minister of Civil Aviation.
Responding and thanking Mayal and TAAI for initiating the meeting, Singh took the points to an up level and also discussed about the various challenges like sector’s condition in the pandemic, losses that occurred, need for having an entity like IATA to have a robust in house management of issues and so on. Other TAAI representatives, Shreeram Patel, Hony Treasurer, Sameer Karnani, Chairman of TAAI Western Region, Amish Desai, Chairman, TAAI Karnataka Chapter and Dr Himanshu Talwar, Executive Director, TAAI were also present in the meeting, and unanimously emphasised the issues and challenges faced during the pandemic in terms of business, which were fully acknowledged by the SpiceJet CMD, with an assurance of personally looking in to it. He also put forth some beneficial points that Finance Ministry has promised for easing out the burden of the industries, which emerged because of the pandemic.
“I, on behalf of all the members would also like to applaud SpiceJet, for having operated hundreds of charter flights in the last two years when scheduled flights were suspended, and creating business opportunities for agents and providing a platform to the travellers. We should together be working towards the industry’s growth and have regular meetings, possibly physical, to take all talks forward and work towards exploring new opportunities and possibilities,” Mayal concluded.
