The Serene Sarovar Premiere Hotel in Hargeisa was formally inaugurated by President of the Republic of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) on August 25, marking a significant turning point in the nation’s hospitality industry.
Built over nine years to international standards, the Serene Sarovar Premiere is Somaliland’s first five-star hotel with an international brand.
The facility is poised to revolutionise hospitality in the Somali region with its 134 completely equipped rooms and extensive array of contemporary amenities.
The hotel’s owner, Abdikarim Mohamed Eid, the Global CEO of Sarovar Hotels, the Mayor of Hargeisa, and the Minister of Investment Promotion and Industrial Development were among the prominent government representatives, investors, and business executives who attended the inaugural ceremony.
President Irro characterised the development in his speech as a sign of economic growth, prosperity, and investor trust in the peace and stability of Somaliland. He underlined how crucial contemporary hotels are to increasing travel, drawing in conventions, and raising the standard of services offered in the nation.
“Investors’ trust in our stability and governance is demonstrated by this initiative. Additionally, it draws attention to how hospitality contributes to employment creation, foreign engagements, and Somaliland’s global visibility,” the president said.
The President commended Eid for his dedication and exhorted other businesspeople to fund initiatives that promote employment and national development.
Modern facilities at the Serene Sarovar Premiere include a spa, gym, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool, conference rooms that can accommodate up to 800 people, and several dining options.
It offers top-notch luxury while conforming to cultural norms as a Sharia-compliant establishment.
“The launch expands Sarovar Hotels’ presence in East Africa, where it already has operations in Kenya,” stated Ajay Bakaya, Chairman of Sarovar Hotels and Director of Louvre Hotels India. He added, “We are pleased to introduce Serene Sarovar Premiere Hargeisa, a historic property that embodies our dedication to investing in highly promising emerging markets.”
The hotel’s owner, Abdikarim Mohamed Eid, attributed the project’s inception to an idea that was born years ago while staring out over Hargeisa. “I was standing on this hill with a friend many years ago when he said, ‘This would be ideal for a hotel with a view of the entire city.’ That motivated me to realise my goal,” he remarked.
Eid mentioned that he was honoured to carry on his father’s legacy of building one of Hargeisa’s first hotels fifty years ago by constructing Somaliland’s first five-star establishment.
It is anticipated that the hotel will increase Somaliland’s visibility as a commercial and tourism destination, create jobs locally, and draw tourists from the Gulf and Africa.
The establishment is run under the Sarovar Premiere brand by Sarovar Hotels, one of the fastest-growing hospitality firms in India, with more than 140 hotels spread throughout India, Nepal, and Africa. The brand is a member of the international hospitality conglomerate Group du Louvre, which oversees more than 1,700 hotels in 60 nations.
The Serene Sarovar Premiere will be essential to developing Somaliland’s tourism sector, generating employment, and attracting foreign investment, according to speakers at the event.
