India is still making great progress in preserving and presenting its rich cultural and natural legacy to the world. Seven outstanding natural heritage sites from all around the nation have been added to UNESCO‘s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites, boosting India’s number on the Tentative List from 62 to 69 properties. This is a moment of pride for the nation. With this addition, India now has 69 sites in all that are being considered by UNESCO, including 3 mixed heritage properties, 49 cultural properties, and 17 natural properties.
This achievement demonstrates India’s steadfast dedication to protecting and advancing its remarkable natural and cultural heritage. According to UNESCO’s procedure, a site must be on the Tentative List in order to be considered for the esteemed World Heritage List. These sites’ inclusion represents India’s strategic commitment to fusing its natural wonders with international conservation initiatives and is a major step towards future nominations for the World Heritage List.
The nominations have been compiled and submitted in large part by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which is India’s designated agency for the World Heritage Convention. Sincere gratitude was shown to ASI by India’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO in Paris for its hard effort on this project. Additionally, in July 2024, India proudly hosted the 46th Session of the World Heritage Committee in New Delhi, where more than 2000 delegates and specialists from more than 140 nations participated.
