The Mizoram government is considering building a ropeway and cable car system to connect Aizawl, Sairang railway station, and Lengpui to boost tourism and improve public transport. A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma discussed the feasibility of the Aizawl-Sairang-Lengpui ropeway project. This project would connect Aizawl, the state capital, to Lengpui, where Mizoram’s only airport is located, and also link Sairang railway station.
The goal is to improve tourism and transport in the state. Officials discussed whether the tourism department should manage the project or if it should be part of the Aizawl Sustainable Urban Transport Project (ASUTP), which is funded by external sources and overseen by the Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation department. The meeting included important figures such as Urban Development Minister K. Sapdanga, Tourism Minister Lalrinpuii, and the chief minister’s finance advisor TBC Lalvenchhunga.
