Arrivals to Maldives in 2024
We’ve achieved some significant milestones this year. In February, we recorded the highest number of arrivals with 10,213 visitors, which was two to three weeks ahead of our projections. However, there has been a dip in arrivals from the Indian market, likely due to competition from other destinations and the off-season. We are confident that our ongoing marketing efforts and roadshows will help uplift these numbers”
Working with the Indian travel trade to rebuild tourism
We recently had a productive meeting with the Minister of Culture from India, where we had a very good dialogue. This shows our keen interest in working with the Indian government. We received positive feedback and discussed diversifying our tourism offerings beyond traditional markets, including film tourism, education tourism, and health tourism. The minister was very supportive, and we look forward to exploring these new avenues.”
Promotional Strategies
We are focusing on roadshows and familiarization (fam) trips in various Indian cities, including tier 2 and tier 3 cities, which we believe have significant potential. Additionally, we are planning new campaigns and other promotional activities to attract more tourists from India.
New markets
Interestingly, Poland has emerged as a top 10 market for the Maldives for the first time. Bangladesh has also shown remarkable growth, with numbers increasing from 3,000-4,000 in the past few years to 22,000. We are conducting roadshows in Bangladesh to further boost these numbers.
Steps to boost tourists from India
We are taking several steps, including meetings with key stakeholders, expanding our tourism offerings, and enhancing our marketing efforts. With the positive response from the Indian government and our continuous engagement with the travel trade, we are confident that we can regain the top spot for the Indian market.
With the collaborative efforts of MMPRC, MATATO, NHGAM, and the robust Indian travel trade, the Maldives is set to strengthen its position as a premier travel destination for Indian tourists. The strategic initiatives and campaigns being rolled out hold the promise of not only reviving but also surpassing previous tourism milestones.
