The agreement, signed in the presence of Poland’s Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak and France’s Minister of Transport Philippe Tabarot, includes options for an additional 44 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027 and will continue through 2031. The aircraft will be delivered in two variants – the A220-100 and A220-300 – offering seating capacities ranging from 100 to 160 passengers.
With a maximum range of 6,700 km, the Airbus A220 is ideally suited to serve LOT’s European network, while bringing substantial environmental benefits. The aircraft boasts reduced CO2 emissions, lower noise levels, and improved fuel efficiency per passenger compared to previous-generation jets.
“This strategic order reflects our vision for the future,” said Michal Fijol, President & CEO, LOT Polish Airlines. “The Airbus A220 aircraft will not only enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency but will also play a key role in supporting our growth and positioning LOT as a leading carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, especially in view of the upcoming Centralny Port Komunikacyjny.”
As part of the agreement, LOT has also selected the advanced PW1500G engines by Pratt & Whitney to power the new fleet, along with a cooperation plan focused on fleet optimisation.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, welcomed the partnership, calling it “a historic breakthrough” and highlighting the A220’s role in fleet renewal and network development for LOT.
The aircraft interiors will feature premium Recaro seats manufactured in Poland, with thoughtful additions including 60W USB-C charging ports, mobile device holders, cup holders, and large overhead bins. A wider cabin and large windows promise a more spacious and comfortable flying experience, complemented by reliable onboard internet connectivity.
With this fleet overhaul, LOT Polish Airlines aims to phase out older aircraft, ultimately operating a unified regional fleet of Airbus A220s to streamline network planning and enhance operational performance.
