Kenya is expecting 15 per cent growth in tourist arrivals from India in 2019, mainly driven by various promotional activities, easy visa process and good connectivity. As per the recent figures released by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), in 2018, 1.25 lakh Indian tourists travelled to Kenya, making the country the fifth largest source market. The United States of America (USA) continues to remain the biggest tourism source market for Kenya with 2.25 lakh travellers, making for 11.12 per cent market share, followed by Tanzania with 10.48 per cent market share. Coming back to India, as per statistics, 66 per cent of the travellers from India, who travel to Kenya, are from Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmadabad and are also amongst the highest spenders in the country. Going forward, KTB is planning to focus on promoting Kenya as ‘Bleisure’ destination – i.e., a combination of leisure and business tourism for Indian travellers in big cities including the existing three.
