Muji has come home. Few days go, Japanese retailer Muji opened doors to its third hotel, Muji Hotel Ginza, which sits atop its largest flagship store in the glitzy Ginza district of Tokyo. Now, travellers can not only shop but also stay in a minimalist lover’s dream surrounded with Muji products.
Spread over six floors, the hotel offers 79 rooms in nine categories which vary in size and arrangement. Staying true to their sustainable and minimal waste design principles, Muji’s hotel uses material borrowed from the old trams of Tokyo. Think repurposed wood, paving stones and even scraps from real ships.
The rooms are a blend of all the things we love about Muji: aesthetically minimal yet homey. While mattresses have been designed based on sleep and posture studies, lighting has been fine tuned to suit the human body’s natural sleep cycle. Each room come kitted out with Muji products—right from the toothpaste to the pyjamas. For guests wishing to keep up their fitness routines, running gear can be rented from the main reception.
Along with the hotel and the flagship store, the 10 storey building also houses Japanese restaurant WA with dishes inspired by regional recipes, a salon with a bar, a library, an art gallery, a bakery and a Muji diner.
Last year, the brand launched two hotels in China.
