Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has announced plans to beautify some of the state’s most famous temples to boost religious tourism. The temples, including Baba Balak Nath, Mata Chintpurni, Shri Naina Devi, and Jwalamukhi, will undergo major improvements. The goal is to make these temples world-class destinations for pilgrims and tourists.
During a meeting with the Language and Culture Department in Shimla, CM Sukhu revealed that detailed master plans will be created to improve the facilities at these sacred sites, ensuring a better experience for visitors. “We want these temples in Devbhoomi to be globally recognized,” he said.
In addition to temple improvements, the Chief Minister also announced the introduction of district-level festivals starting next year. These festivals will highlight local talent, with at least one-third of the budget dedicated to supporting local artists. This will ensure they are paid fairly and have the opportunity to showcase their skills.
The government is also taking steps to improve the honorariums for artists who participate in cultural events. Himachal Pradesh hosts a variety of fairs, with 107 officially recognized, including four international ones. The government has allocated ₹1.10 crore for these fairs in 2024-25.
Moreover, the state is working on setting up a digital museum at Bantony Castle in Shimla, which is expected to be finished this year. Plans are also underway to develop the International Roerich Memorial Trust into a major tourist attraction and to formalize the Shimla Winter Carnival to promote cultural tourism.
CM Sukhu emphasized that these efforts aim not only to preserve Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage but also to create new economic opportunities by attracting more tourists.
