One of the most sought-after cultural festivals in Switzerland, the Montreux Jazz Festival, is an iconic two-week long music festival in its 53rdedition.
Scheduled from June 28th to July 13th, one of the biggest draws of the festival this year is the legendary Elton John, who will be playing on two nights of the festival as a part of his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Tour’. The Montreux Jazz Festival features new music trends, striking artists and absolute legends from African American and British music celebrating the best of jazz. Since its initiation in 1967, the Montreux Jazz Festival has seen some of the greatest stars perform including Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Charlie Mingus and Dexter Gordon. In 1978, Freddie Mercury – the lead singer of rock-band ‘Queen’ came to the Montreux Jazz Festival to record their world-famous album “Jazz”. One of Montreux’s most loved residents – Freddie’s bronze statue on the shores of Lake Geneva is also a must visit for all music fans.
