Designed to provide first-hand experience of New Zealand’s diverse offerings, the famil tour showcased the country’s stunning landscapes, world-class hospitality, and tailored attractions for Indian travellers. This initiative aimed to equip Indian travel agents with in-depth practical destination knowledge, enabling them to create unforgettable itineraries for their clients.
The curated itinerary featured some of New Zealand’s most iconic destinations, blending adventure, luxury, and cultural experiences:
- Auckland – exploring both the inner city as well as Auckland Harbour with a visit to Waiheke Island for both wineries and ziplining.
- Rotorua – An immersive experience in Māori culture, geothermal wonders, and adventure activities.
- Twizel – A base for visits to Aoraki Mt Cook, Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve, including incredible stargazing.
- Queenstown – High-adrenaline experiences such as bungy jumping and jet boating as well as scenic cruises and a visit to one of New Zealand’s boutique wineries for lunch and tastings.
- Christchurch – A vibrant city with a mixture of new and old buildings, culture and excellent Indian dining options.
Anna Black, Executive Director of General Travel New Zealand, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative:
“We are delighted to have hosted this famil tour, giving Indian travel agents a comprehensive insight into New Zealand’s unique offerings. This is our first agents’ famil after a long hiatus, but we are committed to making it a bi-annual event. There really is nothing like putting the theoretical knowledge into practical experience for these sellers, as we continue to welcome more visitors from this growing market.”
Pruthvi Khetani, COO of Global Destinations, highlighted the significance of the initiative for the Indian market: “This famil was a fantastic opportunity for these travel agents to experience New Zealand first-hand, allowing them to craft extraordinary journeys for their clients. These agents have been actively selling New Zealand for years, but for all, this was their first visit. With India emerging as a key visitor market, initiatives like this help build strong partnerships and create personalised travel experiences that truly resonate with Indian travellers.”
The participating agents were highly impressed with New Zealand’s seamless combination of adventure, relaxation, and cultural authenticity. Many cited the ease of accessibility, warm hospitality, and availability of Indian cuisine as key factors making New Zealand an attractive destination for Indian tourists.
With the success of this famil tour, General Travel New Zealand reaffirms its commitment to growing the Indian outbound market to New Zealand. The initiative is expected to drive increased bookings, as travel professionals can now confidently promote the destination with first-hand knowledge and expert recommendations.
