Officially launched as its own entity in 2012, Weddingline, under the guidance of Chetan Vohra, has become a premier name in wedding management. With over 1,000 celebrations to its credit, the company has built a reputation for handling high-profile events for celebrities, business families, and corporate leaders.
Existing Challenges & How Hoteliers can Help
Everyone in the hospitality sector today wants a pie of the Big Fat Indian Wedding. Thats because it comes with multiple events and sub events and rooms and f&b – all of which is a huge revenue spinner. But more often than not – hotels are selling space – either in the form of rooms or banquet halls that are adaptive. The approach has to be more accommodating – because the wedding clients today are more demanding. I feel hotels need to improve their back end operating and areas to help with the demands of what a social event needs. For example, a cold room for flowers is what no hotel has. Also, the need of ceremonies and the cultural influences they yield should be taken into consideration.
Weddings in India vs. organising Weddings Abroad
Internationally, there is a huge demand amongst hoteliers and tourism boards for Indian Weddings. They have seen the potential they carry not just in terms of direct revenue, but indirect benefits like employment and fringe spending such as sightseeing and shopping. Hence, they tend to roll out huge benefits to attract clients. But India is not really a cheap destination. If you compare the per head basis of a wedding in Udaipur or Goa, it more often than not compares to or is more expansive than a wedding across several destinations. Why then will the end customer not want to expose a destination outside of India.
Sustainability in Destination Weddings
Sadly, we are all more particular about sustainability at a destination wedding than back home in India. This often is because of the local laws and bylaws that are very strict about disbursal of garbage and of material wastage post the events having taken place. Material and labour both are very expensive and hence everything needs to be reused to make it pocket friendly. That ensures minimal wastage and is a big add on to sustainability.
