OTOAI urges Maldives to reconsider 17% Tourism GST on overseas travel trade
The Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) has urged the Maldives Government to reconsider the 17% Tourism GST applicable from October 1, 2026, to overseas tour operators, travel agents and booking platforms. OTOAI said the levy could raise holiday costs, impact existing contracted bookings and reduce competitiveness. President Himanshu Patil called for consultations with international trade associations and Maldivian bodies MATATO and MATI to find a practical solution supporting tourism growth.
