Lohani, a 1980-batch officer from the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering (IRSME), has been appointed for a three-year term, as approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet in an official order dated June 4,2025. He is expected to assume the role soon.
Over the course of his career, Lohani has held several high-profile leadership positions. He served twice as Chairman and Managing Director of Air India and was also appointed as Chairman of the Railway Board in 2017. After retiring from public service, he joined the GMR Group as CEO.
Lohani’s contributions to the tourism and hospitality sector are also notable. In 2001, he took charge as Chairman and Managing Director of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), followed by his role as Commissioner and Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) starting in 2004. His leadership is credited with revitalizing both organizations during his tenure.
