According to reports, the aircraft apparently hovered for an hour before it could get the clearance to land. A disabled on the runway apparently caused the delay in landing.
“The Air India flight has landed safely,” a senior government official said.
The Air India flight to Kabul was being operated under the air bubble with Afghanistan, sources added.
Officials stressed that there is no plan to cancel Delhi-Kabul-Delhi flight as of now. They added that the flight is scheduled to operate on Monday.
However, they stated that the airline is monitoring the situation closely and it would take appropriate action as required.
Meanwhile, a woman who arrived in Delhi on the last flight from Kabul on Sunday said the Taliban were going to kill her friends.
With Ashraf Ghani stepping down as president of Afghanistan, the Taliban are now control in the war-torn country. A three-member council has now been formed with former Afghan president Hamid Karzai as one of the members to oversee the transition of power to the Taliban.
Speaking to media outlets at Delhi’s IGI airport on Sunday, the woman who arrived from Kabul said, “I cannot believe that the world abandoned Afghanistan.”
“Our friends are going to get killed. They [Taliban] are going to kill us. Our women are not going to have any more rights,” added the woman.
