Where you should travel this summer based on the kind of break you need

Summer doesn’t arrive quietly. It shows up in full force with longer days, rising temperatures, and an almost collective urge to step away from the mundane.

For Indian travellers, it’s no longer just about escaping the heat, but about choosing how they want to feel on a vacation. Rested, recharged, inspired, indulgent and sometimes all at once. Because travel today isn’t just about where you go, but how you experience it.

Travel is no longer just ticking the touristy spots and going with a set itinerary, but it is more about how a traveller feels. Travellers now decide at destinations that cater to their mood. Some summers are for doing absolutely nothing by the sea, where you take it slow and days blur to sunsets. Some summers need more discovery like culture, flavours and unfold stories. There are also some moments when all you need is a little of everything that is luxury, discovery and experiences that linger long after the trip is over.

If summer had a mood board of its own, it wouldn’t be one place; it would be many. Each destination offers a different version of escape, depending on what you need most right now.

Slow down at Sri Lanka’s Teardrop Hotels

For those craving a quieter kind of summer, Sri Lanka offers a pace that feels almost instinctively slower. At Teardrop Hotels, that rhythm is woven into the stay itself. Think restored heritage homes, intimate villas, and spaces that feel personal rather than polished. Days begin unhurried, perhaps with a cup of Ceylon tea overlooking lush greenery, and unfold into moments that don’t demand an agenda, just presence. Whether it’s walking through colonial-era architecture, lingering over thoughtfully prepared local meals, or simply listening to the stillness around you, this is where travel becomes less about doing and more about being.

Indulge at The Ritz-Carlton, Bali

Some summers call for indulgence, the kind where every detail is taken care of before you even think of it. At The Ritz-Carlton, Bali, the experience is designed to feel effortless yet elevated. Perched along the coastline of Nusa Dua, the resort blends ocean views with expansive suites, private villas, and curated dining that turns every meal into an occasion. Mornings can begin with a slow breakfast overlooking the sea, followed by spa rituals rooted in Balinese wellness traditions, and evenings that melt into golden sunsets by the beach. It’s the kind of escape where luxury isn’t loud, it’s quietly immersive.

Explore at Kenya

Some summers aren’t about slowing down or doing just one thing; they’re about experiencing as much as you can, without it feeling rushed. Kenya fits this mood effortlessly, offering a journey that moves from city to wilderness to coast in a matter of days. One can start in Nairobi, where the trip eases in with a mix of urban energy and experiences, before heading to any of the National parks like the Maasai Mara, Samburu, Amboseli, for early morning game drives, hot air balloon safaris and long, unfiltered moments in the wild. What sets it apart, though, are the interactions beyond the landscape, time spent in a tribal village, where everyday life, craft and tradition offer a deeper layer to the experience.

Just when the pace begins to settle, the coast brings a complete shift. In places like Watamu and Lamu, days slow down around mangrove creeks, dhow dinners and quiet beaches. It’s this constant change in pace and perspective that makes Kenya feel like multiple holidays in one, ideal for those who want their summer to be as varied as their mood.

Be a foodie in Thailand

For those who travel with their appetite leading the way, Thailand offers a summer that is as much about flavour as it is about place. From fragrant curries to coastal seafood and tropical fruits, every meal feels like a discovery. For travellers who prefer their culinary journey to unfold in a more serene and intimate setting, Krabi offers a quieter yet equally compelling side of Thailand’s food culture. At Phulay Bay, the world’s first Ritz-Carlton Reserve property, dining is woven into the experience of the destination. Evenings often centre around Lae Lay, where a contemporary seafood menu highlights the freshest catch from the Andaman Sea, while Sri Trang presents Southern Thai cuisine in a traditional family-style format. Beyond the restaurants, memorable culinary moments unfold – dinner at open-air Sala Srichan, illuminated by a thousand flickering lights to longtail boat excursions to nearby islands where picnic baskets can be enjoyed along hidden coves. Whether navigating bustling food streets in Bangkok or enjoying a quiet meal by the Andaman coast, Thailand turns every bite into a memory.

Escape at Seychelles

Then there are moments when the only thing you really want is to switch off completely. Seychelles answers that need with an ease that feels almost effortless. With its powdery white sands, impossibly clear turquoise waters, and unhurried pace, the islands invite you to do very little and enjoy it fully. Days are spent barefoot, moving between the sea and the shore, with no real sense of time. It’s not about ticking experiences off a list, but about embracing stillness, simplicity, and a kind of quiet luxury that feels deeply restorative.

Maybe summer vacation is not where you want to go but more about what you want to return with. There’s no one way to do summer anymore. Because the right mix of place and stay doesn’t just shape your holiday, it shapes the memory of it. And sometimes, that’s what makes a trip truly linger.
