The state’s continued focus on expanding tourism projects, bolstering air services, and providing innovative solutions like free ambulance services for Ayushman Card holders underlines its commitment to both tourism and public welfare.

Madhya Pradesh’s diverse offerings, from wildlife safaris to cultural heritage sites, have made it a prime destination for both domestic and international tourists. Union Tourism Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, speaking at the summit, remarked that the tourism sector in India, especially in Madhya Pradesh, will be a significant contributor to the country’s GDP by 2047, with tourism projected to exceed 10% of India’s GDP. The rising number of domestic tourists, spurred by increased spending capacity and the government’s tax relief measures, further underscores the growing potential of the state’s tourism industry.
Shri Shekhawat also highlighted the prime opportunities in the state’s tourism sector, inviting investors to explore the vast possibilities Madhya Pradesh offers. His words, “If I were not in politics, I would have been in the tourism business,” reflect his firm belief in the state’s potential to thrive as a tourism powerhouse.
Unique Natural Beauty and Wildlife Tourism
Madhya Pradesh is a treasure trove of wildlife and natural wonders, attracting eco-tourists and nature enthusiasts from around the world. - Ayodhya Cruise Lines: ₹70 crore investment in cruise tourism projects.
- Indian Hotels Company Ltd. (IHCL): ₹1,960 crore for new hospitality units across national parks and cities like Indore and Ujjain.
- Treasure Group: ₹600 crore investment in ultra-mega projects, including luxury resorts near Khajuraho and Sanchi.
- Amazon Prime, Zee5, Hollywood Projects: ₹300 crore for film production.
- Imagica World Entertainment Ltd.: ₹200 crore for a water park near Indore.
These investments aim to expand and enhance Madhya Pradesh’s tourism infrastructure, creating a diverse array of attractions for all types of travelers.
MoUs to Enhance Tourism Facilities
As part of the summit, six significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to drive forward various tourism initiatives in the state. These MoUs are focused on improving safety, cleanliness, and overall tourism infrastructure, as well as creating job opportunities and promoting sustainable practices. Some of the key MoUs include:
- MakeMyTrip: Development of ‘Pink Toilets’ in Orchha to enhance facilities for women travelers.
- IndiaHikes: Development of new trekking routes and promotion of adventure tourism.
- Alchemy Cruise Lines: Expansion of cruise tourism along the Narmada River.
- IndiGo Airlines: Tourism development at Gwalior Fort.
- UN Women: Promoting gender equality through workshops and awareness programs at key tourist destinations.
These agreements reflect the government’s proactive approach to improving the tourism experience, enhancing safety, and promoting inclusive growth.
