Shipping Ministry launches ‘Cruise Bharat Mission’
The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, launched the ‘Cruise Bharat Mission’ from onboard cruise ship ‘Empress’, Mumbai port. Aimed at boosting the tremendous potential of cruise tourism in India, the programme by MoPSW aims to propel country’s cruise tourism industry by doubling cruise passenger traffic within five years, i.e. by 2029.
New Tent Cities in Orchha, Mandu and Tamia to boost Adventure Tourism
The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board is expanding its tent city concept to the stunning locations of Orchha, Mandu, and Tamia, enhancing the state’s adventure tourism offerings. These tent cities will provide immersive accommodations, complete with air, water, and land adventure activities. The initiative aims to attract tourists year-round and contribute to local employment.
Air India Express completes merger with AIX Connect
Air India Group has completed the operational integration and legal merger of Air India Express Ltd and AIX Connect (erstwhile AirAsia India) into a larger Low-Cost Carrier. The formation of the merged entity, which will operate under the ‘Air India Express’ name and a unified airline code IX, marks a significant milestone in the transformation journey of Air India.
Justdial reports: 17% increase in travel related searches
The data spanning from January 2023 to August 2023 and January 2024 to August 2024 shows a substantial 17% increase in travel-related searches across India. Surprisingly, non-metro cities outpaced metro centres in terms of search activity, with a remarkable 129% increase in 2023 and 126% in 2024, indicating a growing interest in travel beyond major urban centres.
