Japan removes tour guide requirement for foreign tourists
Japan has been reopened to foreign tourists for nearly three months now, but you wouldn’t
know it by looking around. That’s because currently inbound leisure travellers are only
allowed into the country as part of guided tours, which only fit within the budget and
preferences of a small subset of travellers. It’s a style especially incongruent with the
comparatively young demographic of international travellers interested in visiting Japan, and
so while international travellers technically can enter Japan, very few are. Prime Minister
Fumio Kishida announced these two changes to Japan’s entry regulations, which go into
effect on September 7, 2022.
No cap on domestic airfares from now
As per the latest developments, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has removed price caps on
domestic airfares with effect September 1, 2022. This move comes after a span of
approximately 27 months, and it was initially implemented when COVID hit the nation.
Now, with the removal of price caps, all domestic airlines have the freedom to decide fares
on domestic routes and will no longer be required to regulate air tickets according to fare caps
set by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The Aviation Ministry, earlier this month, stated that
the decision to remove air fare caps has been taken after careful analysis of daily demand and
prices of air turbine fuel (ATF).

“I am extremely happy and satisfied with the execution of the TAAI 66 th Cruising
Convention. Putting together a Convention aboard a Cruise in mere 12 days was a herculean
task but we managed to do it. The TAAI team stepped up and industry colleagues came
forward to add the “illuminating” element to the whole event. The three days of the cruise
were a perfect mix of unique and out of the box sessions along with wonderful experiences
on the ship. All 300 plus delegates had a wonderful time and formed memorable experiences
while making lifetime memories.”
– Mrs. Jyoti Mayal, President, TAAI
