GLASTONBURY Festival of Contemporary Arts is a five day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place in Philton, Somerset, England. Glastonbury is the largest Greenfield festival in the world and is now attended by around 175,000 people. Regarded as a major event in British Culture, the festival is inspired by the ethos of the hippie, counter culture, and free festival movements.
The main highlight of the festival is that every year, leading Pop and Rock artists give concerts and performances, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. This year will see some rocking shows by ‘The Killers and The Cure’, headlining the pyramid stage alongside Stormzy, Kylie Minogue, and Janet Jackson. Other performers include Miley Cyrus, George Ezra, Tame Impala, Bastille, Anne-Marie and many others. Billie Eilish will also join the hip-hop and flute polymath Lizzo.
This is no ordinary festival; Glastonbury is famed for its variety. It is said that if music festivals were desserts, Glastonbury would be the sweetest of the lot. This is the festival that attracts the most esteemed acts and the sportive mix of attendees, spanning generations, backgrounds and musical tastes.
Glastonbury is also full of amazing food stalls. Pretty much every type of food you can imagine is available at there. The Festival organises market places, selling an enormous range of wares, and which place particular emphasis on offering high quality prepared food and hand-made goods, including clothes and jewellery.
With the aim to encourage and stimulate youth culture from around the world in all its forms, including pop music, dance music, jazz, folk music, fringe theatre, drama, mime, circus, cinema, poetry and all the creative forms of art and design, including painting, sculpture and textile art, Glastonbury Festival is undoubtedly the place to spend the best times of your life.
Tickets for this year’s Glastonbury sold out in half an hour. The festival returns after a fallow year in 2018. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2020.
