A well-recognised name in the travel fraternity – a man who is known for more action than words, Ashwani Lohani is once again back in news and action. While everyone thought he is settling in his retirement phase, the man and our government, seems to have other plans. Ashwani Lohani, the former Railway Board chairman has once again been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Air India, according to an order issued by the government on Wednesday.
Mr. Lohani, who assumes office today, headed the national carrier Air India from August 2017 to September 2017 when he was moved to the Railway Board as the Chairman, from where he retired in December 2018. He is a 1980-batch IRSME (Indian Railway Service Mechanical Engineering) officer hailing from Madhya Pradesh. An extremely capable man who is known for turning losses into profits, it was during his tenure that Air India made its first operating profit of ₹105 crore in FY17 since the merger of Indian Airlines and Air India in 2007. We hope that good times for Air India lie ahead with Mr. Lohani now in the cockpit!
