The decision was taken in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public life, marking his tenure as head of government since October 7, 2001.
Addressing a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said the Cabinet had also passed a resolution felicitating the Prime Minister on completing 25 years of continuous public service. He described the milestone as a significant chapter in Indian democratic history, highlighting the guiding principles of service, dedication and ‘Nation First’.
The Chief Minister said the decision to name the airport reflected the state government’s appreciation of the Prime Minister’s leadership, guidance and contribution to Uttar Pradesh’s development. He noted that the Jewar airport would play an important role in strengthening the state’s economy, industry, tourism and international connectivity in the coming years.
Highlighting the transformation in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure, CM Yogi said approximately ₹60,000 crore has been spent on 42 national highways spanning around 2,483 kilometres. He also referred to major connectivity projects, including the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway, Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat/RRTS project, involving an investment of more than ₹30,000 crore, was also cited as a key development in high-speed public transport.
The Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a major logistics and industrial hub, supported by the Dedicated Freight Corridors, infrastructure development and industrial initiatives. He highlighted Dadri’s role as a junction of the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, the development of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, the BrahMos missile assembly unit in Lucknow and the PM MITRA Textile Park.
On farmers’ welfare, the Chief Minister stated that more than ₹1 lakh crore has been transferred to over 3 crore farmers in Uttar Pradesh under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi. He also highlighted support for sugarcane farmers, crop-loss compensation and agricultural credit through Kisan Credit Cards.
The Chief Minister further outlined initiatives in housing, food security, drinking water and healthcare. According to the state government, more than 65 lakh poor families have received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while over 2.46 crore rural households have received tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also cited the distribution of Ayushman cards, expansion of healthcare facilities and free treatment support for patients with serious illnesses.
Highlighting employment and youth development, CM Yogi said more than 62 lakh youth have received smartphones and tablets under the Swami Vivekananda Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana. He also referred to government appointments, private-sector employment, skill development initiatives and the expansion of sports infrastructure across the state.
The Chief Minister also highlighted initiatives related to women’s empowerment, rural development and local enterprise, including the Lakhpati Didi campaign, PM SVANidhi, the SVAMITVA scheme and the One District-One Product programme. He noted that Uttar Pradesh’s traditional products and handicrafts have received international exposure through efforts to promote local products on global platforms.
Emphasising the cultural and spiritual dimensions of the state’s development, the Chief Minister referred to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the redevelopment of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the return of the Maa Annapurna idol to India, the development of Buddhist heritage sites and the organisation of the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. He also highlighted initiatives to preserve the state’s cultural heritage and promote its religious and historical destinations.
The Chief Minister said the state government would continue working with full energy, sincerity and commitment under the Prime Minister’s leadership and guidance to realise the vision of ‘Viksit Uttar Pradesh, Viksit Bharat-2047’.
