Genting Cruise Lines will invest USD50 million to transform the much loved SuperStar Virgo into Explorer Dream to further expand the fleet for the fastest growing cruise brand in Asia. Since Dream Cruises premiered its first ship two years ago, the brand has garnered numerous international accolades including “Best Cruise Line – Cuisine”, “Best Cruise Line – Entertainment” and “Best New Ship: World Dream” at the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards 2018, Star Performer Top Ten rating for Genting Dream and World Dream in the Berlitz Cruising and Cruise Guide 2018, Best Cruise Operator at the TTG Travel Awards 2018 and placing in the top 5 mid and large class cruise lines in the Conde Nast Traveller The Gold List 2018. The unprecedented popularity and resounding success of Dream Cruises has seen its capacity double in size from the inaugural sailing of Genting Dream in 2016 to the christening of World Dream in Hong Kong in 2017, and will further increase as Explorer Dream debuts in 2019.
The German-engineered 75,338-gross ton, 1,852 passenger cruise liner will begin operation in spring 2019 in the role of pathfinder for the brand’s global aspirations. Explorer Dream will strengthen the Dream Cruises’ brand in East and North China with homeports in Shanghai and Tianjin during Spring/Summer 2019 with a selection of voyages of various durations to Japan before relocating to Australia and New Zealand for the winter season.
