
His tenure at IATA will conclude on July 31, 2026, and he is expected to assume his new role at IndiGo by August 3, 2026.
Walsh brings decades of aviation leadership experience to IndiGo. Prior to leading IATA, he served as Chief Executive Officer of British Airways and later of International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling.
Announcing the appointment, IndiGo Chairman Rahul Bhatia said Walsh’s arrival comes at a crucial time in the airline’s growth journey. He described Walsh as one of the most respected figures in global aviation, with extensive expertise in leading large airline operations, building customer-centric carriers and steering businesses through complex market conditions.
IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta also welcomed the appointment, stating that Walsh’s proven leadership and international experience make him the ideal choice to guide IndiGo through its next phase of expansion. He added that Walsh’s appointment signals a new chapter for the airline as it continues to strengthen its position in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.
