Sri Lanka has officially rolled out its new electronic visa (E-Visa) system, marking a significant advancement in the nation’s immigration services.
This new methodology, replacing the previous Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, aims to streamline the visa application process, attracting more tourists and investors, and boosting economic development through increased foreign exchange investment.
Detailed in the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2360/24 dated November 27, 2023, the new visa system includes updated fees, requirements, and permitted durations of stay. These changes are now accessible for review on the official document portal at www.documents.gov.lk.
The Department of Immigration and Emigration, in collaboration with GBS Technology Service and IVS Global Institute, has developed the E-Visa platform to ensure a fast and efficient application process. Prospective visitors and investors can now apply for their visas via the newly launched website at www.srilankaevisa.lk/
The Department urges all media and press agencies to disseminate this information widely to ensure that the public, potential tourists, and investors are well-informed about the new system.
This move is part of Sri Lanka’s broader strategy to enhance its attractiveness as a premier tourist destination and a hub for international investment, promising a boost in the country’s economic fortunes through enhanced foreign exchange earnings.
